One of my favourite songs by Billy Holiday. The song, composed by Rezső Seress, is reputed to encourage suicide. The song was, supposedly for this reason, banned by the BBC.

Mais um Domingo, mais uma música Italo-Disco. Neste espaço confesso que farei algo de, não sei se ilegal, mas com com certeza imoral, juntando Italo-Disco a géneros musicais que de uma forma ou outra são semelhantes. Assim, a partir deste momento, Italo-Disco significa um pouco mais.

Como será então possível definir Italo-Disco? Acredito que é algo axiomático. Talvez diga isso por sentir dificuldade em enumerar as suas características embora seja muito fácil a sua classificação. Assim, lentamente, tentarei fazer progressos numa eventual definição:

Esta semana a minha sugestão é: "Deve ser possível passar numa pista de carrinhos de choque".

Em relação à música, isso é que interessa, a minha sugestão da semana é "I Like Chopin" e foi um dos maiores êxitos do estilo, representando paradigmaticamente o género.

PS: A melodia em piano não é de Chopin mas sim do produtor Pierluigi Giombini, incontornável do género.

Another Sunday, another Italo-Disco song. In this space I confess that I'll do something, maybe not illegal, but certainly immoral, joining Italo-Disco to other similiar genres. Thus, from this moment, Italo-Disc means a little more. How is then possible to define Italo-Disco? I believe that is something axiomatic. You may say that it is difficult to enumerate its features while it is very easy to classify it's songs. So, slowly, I'll try to make progress on a possible definition: This week is my suggestion: "It's a song you can hear on bumper cars." Regarding the music, that's what really matters, my suggestion for this week is this amazing "I Like Chopin" e it was one of the greatest hits of Italo-Disco. It's one of the songs that represents best the Italo-Disco style. PS: The piano's melody is not from Chopin but for the producer Pierluigi Giombini, one of the most famous Italo-Disco producer.

Karen Dalton: Little Bit of Rain

Para o valor que tem, Karen Dalton deveria ser muito mais conhecida. Principalmente para uma pessoa com amigos como Bob Dylan e Fred Neil (este tema é original dele). É verdade que o facto de só ter gravado um disco nos 60 (e só saiu em 1969) não ajudou nada. Muitos comparam a sua voz à de Billie Holiday embora talvez fosse demasiadamente diferente para ambientes mais populares...

For what she worth, Karen Dalton should be more known. Especially for a person with friends like Bob Dylan and Fred Neil (this is one of his original). It is true that the fact that she only recorded one disc in the 60s (and only came out in 1969) did not help.
